The Art of NatureThe arts have played a critical role in the exploration and now preservation of the West. By bringing the the grandeur and vitality of the West alive, they captured the imagination of millions who might never have seen such marvels. Artists also inspired the first movements towards conservation of the West.Thomas Moran and William Henry Jackson helped chronicle the wonders of what became Yellowstone National Park. Albert Bierstadt’s depictions of Western landscape were so influential that mountains in Colorado were named for both him and his wife. Charles M. Russell and William Henry Jackson chronicled the westward expansion in paintings, murals and photographs, while James Earle Fraser captured nature and early western life in sculpture. Today, art helps capture the wonders of western wildlife and the scenic beauty that characterizes the “last best places.” The Lodge at Jackson Fork Ranch is proud to host “The Art of Nature” series, bringing the work of Western artists to our guests. Last summer, renowned sculptor Carol Cunningham visited the Ranch and lodge to work on a study for a sculpture she was working on. This video chronicles her visit to the Ranch.
